EXPO 2020 - OPENING CEREMONY

The Opening Ceremony of Expo 2020 Dubai required awe-inspiring scenic elements to complement the grandeur of the Al Wasl Dome.

Evolution Scenic was tasked with producing six large-scale kinetic flower sculptures and other scenic features to enhance the ceremony's visual impact and storytelling.

These elements needed to seamlessly integrate with the performers, be visually striking against the dome's massive scale, and incorporate wireless technical functionality for movement and illumination.

Innovative Scenic Installations for a Global Stage

• Mechanized Flower Sculptures: Designed and built six giant kinetic flowers with intricate mechanisms enabling blooming motions, including spiraling, twisting petals, and synchronized movement. The flowers featured integrated fiber optics and LEDs for dynamic color changes, controlled wirelessly.
• Scenic Poles and Performers' Props: Constructed 6-meter-tall poles with LED decorations and counterweights, allowing performers to swing in various directions.
• Stage Reveal Mechanism: Developed a custom quick-release motorized system for a dramatic stage reveal, synchronizing with the overall performance.
• Durable Construction: Utilized a mix of wood, metal, and fabric, with continuous testing and refinements to ensure robust kinetic motion and safety.
• Comprehensive Support: Delivered a 12-meter diameter rehearsal stage and facilitated rehearsal-ready installations while adhering to stringent health and safety protocols.

The Expo 2020 Opening Ceremony’s kinetic flowers and scenic installations were a resounding success, captivating the global audience and showcasing Evolution Scenic’s ability to deliver innovative and complex solutions under tight timelines.
