The flower's operation was essentially straightforward. To start/pause and halt its motion, a wired remote with two buttons and built-in LEDs was employed. When the start button was hit, the flower would open and retain its position for roughly two and a half minutes before closing for 30 seconds. This entire process continues until the stop button is manually hit, causing the flower to collapse. Holding the start/pause button for 3 seconds brought the bloom to a standstill. This function was implemented to make it easier for artists to work and to ensure that nothing interferes with or prevents the flower from operating in the long run.

Knowing that it would be difficult to access and troubleshoot the control box after everything was in place, a mini 128x64 pixel OLED display was installed on the side of the box to display the current state of the actuator as well as other information. In addition, numerous aviation connectors with different pins were employed to connect everything. This made shipping and installation easier all while ensuring that no connections were made incorrectly.

There was a lot to be learnt and improved about the design once the project was live. As we enter the era of automation, Evolution takes satisfaction in creating something that will be exhibited for a particular market. Winter always brings in joy and happiness, along with holidays. And Holidays usually mean family times, which turn means more outing for families. This winter, Evolution had the privilege of setting up a stage for Warner Brothers Theme Park situated in Yas Island, Abu Dhabi thanks to our  client East West Events.

This stage needed to look like something out of a fairy tale, along with multiple magical elements. One of them being a scissor lift that was placed right at the front of the stage. This stage needed to raise up to a height of 1 meter, and the top base needs to rotate only when it’s raised up. 

Requirements like this did pose a big challenge, how would you make a lazy Susan stage that moves only when it’s raised and locks up when it’s in zero position. As the delivery date was near, our Automation Engineer had only 3 days to his disposal, where he needed to design, fabricate and deliver.

After 7 different iterations of the design, it was finally time to fabricate it. A scissor lift capable of lifting upto 3 tons was used as the base. A frame was built on top of it to support the top lid and to hold the cladding in place. Cladding needed to travel with the frame to hide all the internal working. Close to 50 rubberized wheels were placed on a 1.7 meter metal sheet measuring 8mm in thickness. Flange bearing was used as the center pivot point.  For the lid on top of the stage, two 18mm birch plywood were sandwiched to form the base. 

A ring of 10mm rubber was placed on an additional 3mm laser cut metal ring to act as the brake. This rubber plate was rested on top of 10 adjustable stage legs which were placed within the frame, but on its own. They place independently, so that they don’t interfere or touch the cladding, causing it to rise up.  We were able to deliver it 3 days after we started.

We faced our biggest issue once the scissor lift stage was placed on site. During transport, the base metal plate which housed all the 10 adjustable legs was moved and got damaged, to fix it we needed to bring it back to our workshop. Our Engineers replaced the base with an additional 8mm metal sheet while making sure that this time nothing moved from its position. And it worked!

We always take pride in being a part of something that’s larger than us. Our work bought joy and smile to those who have visited and seen the show that took place on that stage. In the end of the day, we can say proudly that our hard work got some meaning to it.

Evolution Live Events Management was hired by East West Events to prepare a technical design and build the scenic stage for Warner Bros. The setup was to be done at Warner Bros. theme part at Yas Island, Abu Dhabi. The installations could only be done at night under certain timelines along with following all procedures involving the Rules and Regulations as per WB's protocol.

The scenic backdrop consisted of various elements which was designed and built in accordance with the site requirements.

The main structure designing consisted preparing working stage on top of an existing fountain feature which had a lot of points on top of which we could not take supports keeping in a mid a 6 meter diameter rotating platform to accommodate 5- 8 people was a center feature was situated right on top of the top fountain making this an extremely challenging and interesting project to work on. The second main feature was the clock tower which was 12 meter high and comprised front side LED tiles for video content and various artist feature for projection mapping making this structure a masterpiece that defined the overall look for the scenic backdrop. 

The clock tower structure was followed by bridge structure on the backside which was to be used by performers to access to lockers rooms on the first floor. With meticulous planning and drawings , the structures was fabricated and mocked up at Evolution warehouse to make sure they fit the existing venue.

Once the structures were taking onsite, every part of the structure was modular and was fixed into each like Lego pieces making this a one of kind installation in which everything was completed and handover in a time of 10 days giving it a rendered finish. 

The massive had many hidden features that were only installed for the artist for the ease during the show. One of the features was the room under the bridge which had curtains concealed inside that would drawn out converting this into an expandable dressing room. Another feature was the structure many store rooms for storing and access the underneath the stage for checking and repair in terms of damages to the elements used on the structure. 

The adding elements for the main scenic were the scenic TV poles which have LED tiles inside the frames on top supported on a single pipes making a artistic installation along with keeping integrity of the structure. 

Materials ranging from MDF to Multiwall sheets , Pixel controlled LEDs to high performance customized gear motors and hydraulic lifts , multiple materials were used and put together to compliment each in way which resulted in the master piece that was appreciated both the venue and performers in every way possible. 

Objective: Making the ever so loving Santa’s little elves. The plan was to have them all over Santa’s house, hidden in the random spots all over the house. Some would be poking behind the Christmas tree with gifts, hiding behind Santa’s workstation popping their little heads every now and again. There was also a thought of adding one that would pop out of a present, like a Jack in the Box.

We had a few things to consider for this project, first the deadline and second how much we can deliver within the deadline. We cut a lot of our plan down to scope and decided to have the elves poking off a huge stack of gifts exclusively. Since that part of the room is in the viewable area of the guests that would enter the house, it seemed like the best idea for the situation.

We decided to use linear actuators to have the elves pop in and out from the stack of gifts. At the actuator’s lower most position the elves would be completely covered by the gift boxes and when the actuator slowly ascends the elves pops in view, all with different actuation lengths. 

​Before we could work on the electronics, we were told to provide the locations for the elves so that the stack of presents could be arranged around them. Caroline helped put all the elves in place on Sketchup, to get an idea of placements and prospective.

With that sorted we can now look at building the essential control panel for this project. The setup was straight forward:

• 1*Arduino control board to program the motion in play
• 9*Motor control to enable the linear actuator to extend/retract
• 1*A 12V/5V power supply for the linear actuators and the Arduino

All these components we assembled inside a junction box with male barrel connectors as outputs to connect the linear actuators with the elves in place. We extended all the cables of the linear actuators on site and connected the corresponding female barrel connectors to the ends of the extended cable. Once the barrel connectors were connected the actuators are successfully connected to the motor drivers and the Arduino board.

Programming was simple, we generated a random sequence of actions for the elves, where at given time only one elf could pop-in and out. There was a total of 9 elves that were placed in different locations within the pile of gifts. 

Winter City, a festive winter wonderland that opened on November 23, 
is the latest addition to the Mobility District. It covers two avenues at the site and offers plenty of festive fun for visitors.

The streets of Expo City were bustling with more than 30 stalls and kiosks, offering an array of activities and festive products from carnival-style games to arts and crafts stations.

​The Evolution Scenic Team took on a unique and challenging project this Christmas season. The team spent hours creating a kiosk that was simple but elegant in appearance with a bright fairy lights effect, made a décor islands with a realistic snow that made it feel like Christmas.

Italian luxury fashion house Prada presents its eighth iteration of Prada Mode, a traveling social club with a focus on contemporary culture that provides members with a unique art experience along with music, dining & conversations, featured a new edition of Pharmacy by Damien Hirst. Since the late 1980s, Hirst has created installations, sculptures, paintings, and drawings that explore the complex relationship between art, beauty, religion, science, life, and death.

The artist transformed a dedicated space at the landmark ICD Brookfield Place, the newest Landmark building in Dubai. During the two-days event, members participated to workshop, panels, and discussions as well as nightly events, sampling specially cocktails and dining throughout.

Evolution scenic always loved to engage in a new concept to build and manage the flow of the event smoothly and safely. Our worldwide recognized client Kennedy London gave us the opportunity to build the artist concept to reality, turning a newest landmark building into a Dinning Bar event space from exhibition space.

Evolution have scanned the whole ceiling for rigging artist artwork and artificial track lights in the coordination with worldwide recognized client FARO Studio lighting designers under the supervision of worldwide recognized client VCA projects.​

Evolution scenic have built a massive functional custom bars in the middle of venue space and custom comfort furniture for the visitors to feel comfortable during the event. Medical display cabinet was core element as a life saver of the event based on the artist creation. Evolution scenic covered the venue glass windows with transparent vinyl printed sticker and covered 8m height circular column with special wallpaper. Our creative in-house Styro team turns a miniature DNA molecule into a core hanging elements to achieve visitors attention as a part of the event.

​We were privileged to be a part of Riyadh Season opening this year which led us to work with one of the biggest Circus companies in the World, Cirque Du Soleil and Matane Productions. Our part was to deliver a boat that’s been converted from a Buggy.
All the control mechanism had to be rethought from scratch as the prop boat needed to act and feel like a boat. Steering wheel needed to be converted into a helm and the brake needed to be a part of the helm, which posed another challenge.
First we started with dismantling a brand new buggy carefully, while keeping all the electronics intact as we used it later. Once that was done, all that remained was the chassis with the motor and wheels. Another auxiliary chassis was designed from scratch and placed on top of it which acted as the base for the placements of all the plastic hollow sheets.
Once the auxiliary frame was bolted, it was time to place back all the other electronics. This is when we realized that the space we kept for the batteries were not enough and we forgot to make any additional space to keep all the electronics that drives the motor. After few hours of changing things here and there, we were able to fit everything in it. A motorcycle’s handle was used to act as an accelerator, which was placed at the tip of the helm. A 2 meter long metal wire was used to act as the conduit for the accelerator. Original accelerator was retrofitted to work with the handle. An extension arm was made and attached to the accelerator which pivoted from it’s place when the handle was twisted, resulting in acceleration. As for the brake, the brake wires were re-routed towards the helm too so pulling up the helm resulted in braking the buggy. Two lengthy wires were bolted near each front wheel, which in turn connected to the helm, twisting the helm sideways made the wheels turn. 

​Biggest issue that we faced was during it’s delivery to KSA, the boat ended up getting damaged from multiple places during transportation from Dubai to Riyadh. Battery tray broke down, which caused them to hang and the accelerator wire broke off from the pivot point. Luckily we had our Welder and Automation Engineer on site, and with their help we were able to fix up the boat.
Although there were multiple issues during the lifespan of this project, we had faith in our team to execute and delivery on time. With all the talented people at Evolution, we believe that we can do the impossible.
