    Engineering the Double-Decker Exhibition Architecture


    Evolution Scenic delivered the complete two-level exhibition environment for DUCAB, developing the structural framework and scenic architecture as one coordinated temporary build. The stand occupied a 15-metre by eight-metre ground-floor footprint, creating 120 square metres of exhibition space, while the completed structure reached an overall height of five metres.


    A circular mezzanine measuring six metres in diameter introduced a dedicated upper-level meeting environment without increasing the ground-floor allocation. The elevated area allowed the stand to accommodate private meeting and hospitality functions above the main exhibition space while retaining an open and accessible layout below.


    The mezzanine was supported by a custom mild-steel structural system forming the principal load-bearing framework of the double-decker stand. This structure supported the upper floor, curved perimeter architecture, glazed frontage and staircase, allowing the architectural treatment to be developed around a stable temporary steel framework.


    At mezzanine level, Evolution Scenic fabricated a curved MDF architectural surround with integrated frames designed to receive ten-millimetre tempered glass. The glazed frontage maintained visual connection between the upper meeting space and the exhibition floor, while backlit acrylic DUCAB branding was positioned above the curved perimeter to strengthen the upper level as a prominent architectural feature.


    Access to the mezzanine was provided through a custom mild-steel staircase finished with MDF scenic cladding and integrated cove strip lighting. A glass railing was installed at the landing to maintain the open architectural character of the upper level. The mezzanine structure was also load tested in accordance with Dubai Municipality requirements, completing the structural and compliance requirements of the temporary double-decker construction.

    Constructing the Raised Platform and Accessible Floor System


    The complete ground-floor environment was established on a 15-metre-wide by eight-metre-deep raised platform, creating a controlled architectural base for the full exhibition layout. The platform defined the footprint of the stand and supported the reception, hospitality, networking, product-display and seating areas within one coordinated floor system.


    Evolution Scenic constructed the platform from plywood and applied a six-millimetre MDF layer across the upper surface. This additional layer created a smooth and consistent substrate for the PVC floor finish, helping the completed floor read as a continuous architectural surface rather than a series of separate platform sections.


    The finished platform stood 100 millimetres above the surrounding exhibition floor. This raised construction provided a unified level across the stand while also helping visually distinguish the DUCAB environment from the adjacent exhibition aisle.


    Ramp access was incorporated at both the front and rear of the stand. These transitions were integrated directly into the platform construction, allowing access to form part of the scenic architecture rather than appearing as separate temporary additions.


    By treating the platform, floor finish and access points as one coordinated construction package, Evolution Scenic created a continuous ground-floor plane that supported the stand’s different functional zones while maintaining consistent levels, finishes and circulation throughout the exhibition environment.

    Integrating the Main LED Backdrop and Concealed Operational Space


    The principal DUCAB LED-screen backdrop was developed as a multifunctional scenic wall, combining digital presentation, illuminated branding, technical support and concealed operational storage within a single architectural element.


    The visible structure was fabricated from MDF and finished in white paint to maintain continuity with the wider stand architecture. Within the depth of the backdrop, Evolution Scenic incorporated a dedicated storeroom, complete with an access door and a small fixed glass window, allowing practical back-of-house functionality to be integrated directly into the scenic construction.


    A light-pass acrylic backlit DUCAB logo with applied vinyl graphics was positioned above the main screen area. This illuminated branding was integrated into the scenic elevation rather than added as a separate surface treatment, helping connect the digital display with the wider visual language of the stand.


    The LED screen required an independent support system behind the finished wall. Truss was positioned at the rear of the scenic structure to provide the necessary technical support while remaining concealed from normal visitor sightlines. This separation allowed the visible MDF surfaces to retain a clean architectural finish without carrying the full technical load of the display system.


    By combining the screen surround, concealed storeroom, structural truss support and backlit branding within one coordinated scenic feature, Evolution Scenic used the available wall depth efficiently while maintaining a controlled and visually refined exhibition frontage.

    Fabricating Interactive and Digital Scenic Features


    Several bespoke scenic elements were developed across the ground floor to support digital interaction, product engagement and information display. Rather than introducing freestanding technical equipment into the space, Evolution Scenic integrated the digital hardware directly into purpose-built scenic structures.


    The interactive world-map installation and podium lightbox were constructed around a steel-framed structure, providing a durable internal framework for the feature. MDF cladding formed the visible surfaces, which were finished in white PU matt spray paint to maintain consistency with the wider stand architecture. Backlit acrylic branding with applied graphics was incorporated into the fabrication as part of the finished scenic composition.


    A separate networking-screen structure was manufactured from fire-retardant MDF and finished in the same white PU matt spray-paint treatment. A 55-inch touchscreen was integrated into each face, allowing the feature to operate from both sides and support interaction from different circulation directions within the exhibition space.


    Aluminium-profile diffusers with integrated LED lighting were installed along the edges of the networking feature. These illuminated details helped visually define the structure while framing the digital interfaces as part of the architectural language of the stand rather than as standalone screens.


    Evolution Scenic also fabricated a custom plinth for a ten-inch iPad. The PU matt spray-painted enclosure incorporated a removable internal server shelf and mesh cover, allowing supporting equipment to remain accessible and ventilated. Together, these features demonstrate how digital hardware, scenic joinery, structural framing, lighting and service access were coordinated within a unified exhibition fabrication package.

    Developing the Dual-Faced DMB Display and Media Wall


    The DMB feature was engineered as a double-sided scenic structure, allowing two distinct presentation functions to be incorporated within a single footprint. The approach reduced the need for separate display walls while creating a coordinated scenic element that could support both physical product presentation and digital media.


    On the front elevation, Evolution Scenic fabricated an illuminated product-display wall from fire-retardant MDF with a white PU matt spray-paint finish. Six-millimetre crystal-clear glass was used for the display shelving, while opal-white acrylic and light-pass graphics were integrated into the illuminated sections to create a series of built-in product-display lightboxes.


    The reverse elevation was developed as the DMB LED-screen wall. This face used the same fire-retardant MDF construction but was finished with metallic brushed laminate across the front and side surfaces, introducing a contrasting material treatment within the wider stand architecture.


    Plywood reinforcement was incorporated internally to provide dedicated support for the LED screen. The upper section of the wall was left open to allow ventilation around the integrated equipment, ensuring that the technical requirements of the display system were accommodated within the scenic construction.


    By developing both elevations as one coordinated wall system, Evolution Scenic combined display joinery, illuminated graphics, screen integration, structural reinforcement and ventilation within a compact architectural feature. The result allowed the stand to support both physical and digital content without compromising the visual consistency of the overall exhibition environment.

     Manufacturing Hospitality Joinery and Coordinating Interior Finishes


    Custom scenic joinery was fabricated throughout the stand to support reception, hospitality and informal meeting functions. The principal reception counter measured three metres long, 700 millimetres wide and one metre high. It was manufactured from MDF and finished in white PU matt spray paint, with a backlit acrylic DUCAB logo integrated into the front elevation.


    A separate coffee counter was fabricated using the same MDF construction and white PU matt finish. An integrated cove LED profile introduced a controlled illuminated detail within the counter architecture. A consistent material palette connected these elements with the wider stand. White PU matt spray paint was used across the reception counter, coffee counter, interactive structures, networking display and product-display fabrication, while metallic brushed laminate provided contrast at the DMB media wall.


    Integrated illumination formed part of the scenic architecture throughout the environment. Backlit acrylic logos, LED profiles, illuminated shelving and staircase lighting were incorporated directly into the fabricated elements.


    The ground floor was completed with armchairs and tables arranged according to the stand design. The mezzanine incorporated sofa seating, tables, a freestanding television stand, planter boxes and vinyl flooring, creating a more enclosed meeting and hospitality environment above the public exhibition level.

    Installation, Testing, Handover and De-Rig


    Evolution Scenic handled the complete site delivery of the exhibition environment, bringing together structural steelwork, scenic carpentry, glazing, technical display supports, lighting, floor finishes, branding and furniture.


    Installation required close coordination between the mild-steel mezzanine structure and the surrounding scenic package. The raised platform established the primary floor geometry before the upper structure, staircase, curved mezzanine frontage and glazed architectural elements were integrated.


    At ground level, the LED backdrop, concealed storeroom, reception and coffee counters, interactive features, networking screens, DMB display wall and custom digital plinths were positioned within the completed structural environment.


    Technical interfaces were incorporated into the scenic fabrication during installation. Screen-support dimensions needed to correspond with the display systems, the curved glazing had to follow the mezzanine radius accurately, and scenic cladding needed to conceal structural elements without restricting ventilation or equipment access.


    The DMB wall incorporated an open upper section for ventilation, while the custom iPad plinth retained removable access to its internal server shelf. The mezzanine structure was load tested in accordance with Dubai Municipality requirements before final operation.


    Once completed, the stand provided reception, product-display, hospitality, networking and interactive functions across the ground floor, with a dedicated circular meeting environment positioned above.


    The finished project demonstrates how temporary exhibition architecture can integrate structural steelwork, scenic joinery, specialist finishes, glazing, digital infrastructure and illuminated branding within a single coordinated double-decker construction.

    Building A Three-Deck Urban Environment For Adidas At Sole DXB


    In December 2019, Evolution Scenic was commissioned by Jack Morton Worldwide to design and construct a triple-deck stand for Adidas at Sole DXB in Dubai. The installation combined retail space, branded scenic construction and an elevated viewing platform within a substantial multi-level temporary structure. From the outset, the project required the scenic concept to be developed alongside the structural and operational requirements of the build. This created an environment that needed to function effectively as retail space while also delivering a strong architectural presence within the event.


    The visual direction took inspiration from the gritty character of London’s Underground system and established the main design language for the stand. Rather than treating this reference as a simple graphic treatment, Evolution Scenic translated it into a three-dimensional scenic environment with multiple levels, architectural detailing and integrated retail functions. Branded surfaces, structural features and circulation areas worked together to reinforce the urban character throughout both the exterior and interior spaces. This allowed the design concept to remain consistent across the full structure rather than being limited to isolated decorative elements.


    The completed installation combined visual identity with practical use across all three levels of the stand. Retail areas were integrated directly into the scenic construction, while the elevated viewing platform introduced an additional functional layer above the main customer-facing spaces. The multi-level configuration gave the stand a stronger physical presence and allowed different operational zones to coexist within one coordinated temporary structure.     Translating An Urban Design Into Scenic Construction


    The London Underground reference established a strong architectural language for the build and informed the treatment of both the exterior and interior spaces. The stand incorporated multiple decks, branded architectural surfaces, railings, graphic treatments and integrated retail areas to create a cohesive urban environment. Rather than treating these elements as separate features, the visual language was carried throughout the structure so that each level formed part of the same scenic composition. This helped the installation read as a complete temporary environment rather than a conventional exhibition stand with added decorative elements.


    Delivering that design required the scenic fabrication to be closely coordinated with the primary structural construction.     Integrating Retail Into The Scenic Build


    The Adidas installation was designed to function as both a retail environment and a branded experiential space. Retail displays were integrated directly into the scenic structure, allowing product presentation to sit within the wider architectural composition rather than appearing as a collection of separate furniture or display units. This approach required the scenic construction to support practical retail functions while maintaining the visual language of the overall design. Shelving, branded surfaces and product presentation were therefore treated as part of the built environment rather than as additions placed within it.


    The interior images show display shelving, branded finishes and merchandise presentation incorporated directly into the constructed scenic space. These elements helped the retail areas remain visually connected to the wider Underground-inspired aesthetic used throughout the installation. For scenic fabrication, this type of integration is important because display zones need to work with circulation, branding and surrounding architectural features while remaining practical for repeated use. The result was a cohesive retail environment in which product display and scenic architecture operated as part of the same temporary structure.

    Fabricating The Architectural Treatment


    The exterior of the structure combined branded scenic surfaces with architectural detailing to establish the intended urban visual language. Large-format Adidas signage was integrated into the upper elevations, while Underground-inspired references were carried across both the façades and internal areas. The scenic treatment included branded panels, architectural features, railings and retail construction, giving the structure greater depth than a conventional flat exhibition backdrop. This layered approach helped the exterior read as a complete temporary architectural environment rather than a collection of separate branded elements.

    The scenic fabrication operated in direct coordination with the technical engineering throughout the build. The primary structural frame, elevated VIP deck, retail areas and external architectural treatments all needed to align as parts of one integrated temporary environment. This required the visible scenic elements to work around the structural logic of the installation rather than conceal or compromise it. The result was a coordinated build in which structural design, scenic construction and branded architectural detailing were brought together within a single three-level structure.

    Delivering The Completed Stand


    The completed Adidas installation formed a prominent triple-deck scenic structure at Sole DXB in Dubai, giving the brand a substantial architectural presence within the wider event environment. Its three-level configuration allowed the structure to combine visual impact with multiple functional uses across the different levels. Integrated retail displays provided a practical commercial layer within the scenic build, while the elevated VIP viewing deck introduced an additional operational space above. Together, these elements allowed the structure to function as both a branded destination and a usable temporary environment.


    Externally, the completed build expressed the visual language of an urban underground setting through its overall form, finishes and architectural detailing. Internally, the scenic construction created a functional retail environment with branded display areas, coordinated surfaces and clearly defined customer-facing zones. The relationship between the outer architectural treatment and the internal fit-out helped maintain a consistent brand identity throughout the installation. The finished project demonstrates how Evolution Scenic combines structural design, scenic fabrication and installation to deliver temporary environments that need to perform as both architecture and branded experience.

    DESIGNING AND FABRICATING AN ILLUMINATED SCENIC FEATURE FOR THE KSA PAVILION


    The KSA Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka required a central scenic feature that could communicate the pavilion identity through physical form, material contrast and integrated light. Rather than treating that identity as a flat sign or printed graphic, the design developed it as a three-dimensional scenic installation with enough depth and presence to become part of the pavilion architecture.


    Evolution Scenic was responsible for the creative design, technical development, fabrication, finishing, international shipping, installation and eventual dismantling of the structure. The completed feature combined a metal structural foundation with birch plywood, layered MDF, a poured-resin centrepiece and concealed illumination. Bronze and gold metallic finishes separated the lower and upper sections, while the glowing central emblem created a clear visual focus.


    Although compact compared with a complete exhibition pavilion, the structure brought together many of the same disciplines found within much larger scenic environments. Metalwork, carpentry, resin production, lighting integration, specialist finishing, transport planning and site installation all had to be coordinated around one precisely defined geometric form. This is often what makes an apparently simple scenic feature technically interesting. The finished object may be read immediately, but achieving that clarity requires a considerable amount of work behind the visible surfaces.

    DEVELOPING A SCULPTURAL IDENTITY


    The feature was based around a low-profile faceted composition made from multiple geometric sections. Its form depended on the relationship between angled surfaces, stepped levels and carefully controlled panel divisions rather than on one continuous sculpted volume. Designing this type of structure involves more than establishing its outer silhouette. Each plane needs a defined height, angle and relationship with the surrounding pieces. A small inconsistency in one component can continue through the neighbouring panels, making the complete form feel uneven even when the individual part appears correct on its own.


    One of the questions we often ask during technical development is where the eye will notice variation most quickly. On an irregular rock or textured scenic wall, minor dimensional differences may disappear into the surface treatment. On a clean geometric feature finished in metallic paint, every edge and junction becomes part of the design. Evolution Scenic developed the creative form alongside the proposed construction method. This allowed the visible geometry to be considered in relation to the internal metal frame, timber substrates, lighting cavity and modular transport requirements from the beginning.


    The central emblem was an equally important part of the composition. Its position and scale needed to feel integrated into the surrounding facets rather than appearing as an illuminated object inserted after the main structure had been completed. The recess, supporting construction and nearby panel edges therefore had to be coordinated around the resin component and its internal light source. In practice, this is one of the main differences between scenic fabrication and conventional signage. A sign may be applied to a prepared surface, but a sculptural scenic identity becomes part of the physical construction. Its depth, material and illumination influence the form around it, and the supporting structure must be developed accordingly.

    COORDINATING METALWORK, TIMBER AND LAYERED MDF


    A fabricated metal frame formed the structural foundation of the feature. It provided a stable base for the timber and MDF components while allowing the structure to be manufactured in sections suitable for transportation and final assembly in Japan. The metalwork needed to establish the principal geometry accurately enough for the carpentry to follow it. Any distortion or variation within the frame would have affected the fit of the birch plywood and the alignment of the layered MDF sections above.


    Birch plywood provided a robust construction substrate for the scenic body and supporting components. Its strength and dimensional stability made it suitable for areas where the visible MDF surfaces needed a dependable base behind them. The upper form was then developed using layered MDF components. Rather than manufacturing the entire feature as a single solid object, individual profiles could be cut, shaped and assembled to create the required steps and facets.


    This approach offered several practical advantages. The layers could be manufactured with controlled dimensions, damaged or incorrect components could be replaced individually, and the internal build-up could be adjusted to suit the structural frame and lighting cavity. It also created the clean, repeated panel language that defined the upper section of the finished installation. The method still depended on careful setting-out. Each piece needed to follow the intended geometry while remaining compatible with the surrounding layers. Joint spacing and alignment formed part of the visible design, so they could not simply be treated as unavoidable construction lines.


    What appears to be a decorative gap can therefore carry a great deal of responsibility. It may define the visual rhythm of the structure, conceal a module division or create the tolerance needed for two components to meet cleanly. If those gaps vary noticeably, the entire form can lose the precision that gives it authority. The coordination between metal fabrication and carpentry was particularly important because the two materials behave differently. The metal frame established a rigid support, while the timber and MDF components created the detailed visible geometry. The tolerances between them needed to accommodate fabrication and assembly without allowing the finished surfaces to drift out of alignment.


    For the workshop, this meant treating the structure as one complete assembly rather than a steel package followed by a separate joinery package. Connection points, support levels and panel positions all needed to correspond before the finishing process began.

    INTEGRATING THE POURED-RESIN EMBLEM AND LIGHTING


    A poured-resin emblem formed the illuminated centrepiece of the installation. Producing it as a dimensional component gave the pavilion identity a greater physical presence than a printed graphic or conventional face-lit sign. Resin also allowed the illumination to interact with the material itself. Instead of light simply falling onto the surface, the emblem could appear luminous, visually separating it from the bronze and gold finishes surrounding it.


    The resin element had to fit accurately within the prepared opening. Its scale, edge profile and position needed to correspond with the surrounding facets, while the supporting construction had to retain it securely without introducing visible gaps or fixings. Internal lighting added another layer of coordination. The light source, cable routes, access points and electrical connections all needed to be considered before the scenic surfaces were closed. Once the upper panels and metallic finishes were complete, altering the lighting cavity would have risked damaging finished work.


    In reality, an illuminated scenic component is judged as much by what cannot be seen as by what can. Uneven light distribution, internal shadows or visible technical components can undermine an otherwise carefully fabricated feature. The depth of the resin, the distance from the light source and the finish of the cavity behind it can all influence the final appearance. The surrounding construction also needed to control light leakage. Illumination intended for the emblem should not escape unpredictably through panel joints or reveal internal gaps around the scenic surfaces.


    Testing before final closure is therefore important. The resin may behave differently once illuminated than it does under normal workshop light. Areas of varying thickness can transmit light unevenly, and the colour of the light source may alter the perceived tone of the material. The confirmed project information does not record the specific lighting equipment or control arrangement, but the illumination was clearly integrated into the build rather than added as an external effect. The emblem, lighting cavity and surrounding scenic structure were developed as parts of one finished assembly.

    CREATING CONSISTENT BRONZE AND GOLD FINISHES


    The lower scenic section received a bronze metallic finish, giving the structure a darker visual foundation. The upper faceted panels were finished in a lighter gold tone, emphasising their stepped geometry and reflecting the surrounding pavilion lighting. Together with the illuminated resin emblem, these finishes established the hierarchy of the object. The bronze base visually grounded the structure, the gold upper surfaces defined its geometry, and the luminous centrepiece drew attention to the pavilion identity.


    Metallic finishes can appear simple once complete, but they are demanding of the surfaces beneath them. Scratches, filler lines, exposed MDF edges and uneven sanding can all become more visible after metallic paint is applied. Unlike a heavily textured scenic finish, metallic paint does not conceal variation particularly well. Light moves across the surface and exposes small differences in preparation, especially on angled planes that reflect their surroundings in different ways.


    The layered MDF construction therefore needed careful sealing, filling and sanding before the final spray process. Cut MDF edges are more absorbent than the faces of the boards, and without proper preparation they can produce a noticeably different finish. Transitions between birch plywood, MDF and any filled joint areas also needed to be controlled. The goal was not merely to apply the correct colour, but to create a consistent surface response across several materials and fabricated sections.


    Spray application helped establish an even finish across the shaped surfaces. It also reduced the brush marks or application variations that would have interrupted the clean geometry of the build.

    The bronze and gold finishes still needed to remain consistent across module divisions. Separate sections manufactured for transportation had to appear continuous once reassembled, even though they may have been prepared and painted as individual components. This makes finish sampling and controlled production particularly valuable. The colour needs to be considered under both workshop lighting and the final pavilion environment, where surrounding light levels and colour temperatures can change how metallic surfaces appear.

    DESIGNING FOR INTERNATIONAL TRANSPORT AND REASSEMBLY


    The structure was fabricated in separate sections for transportation to Osaka. This was not simply a logistics decision made after fabrication; it influenced the technical design from the beginning. A completed scenic feature may appear compact in its installed position while still being difficult to pack, handle or move through venue access routes as one object. Dividing it into sections reduced the individual handling size and allowed the components to be protected more effectively during international transport.


    The location of those divisions was important. Each section needed to remain structurally manageable, but the joints could not interrupt the principal visible surfaces or damage the geometric pattern once assembled. One of the practical challenges in modular scenic construction is that the best position for a structural joint is not always the best position for a visual joint. The technical team therefore has to find locations that satisfy both requirements or develop a connection that can be concealed within the design.


    The metal frame, timber body and layered MDF surfaces all needed to separate and reconnect in a controlled manner. The illuminated resin emblem and internal wiring introduced additional considerations because electrical connections had to remain accessible during installation without becoming visible once the build was complete. Finished metallic surfaces also required protection during packing and transportation. Edges and projecting corners are particularly vulnerable because even minor damage can become noticeable under reflective paint. The resin component needed protection from impact and abrasion, while the modular frame sections required suitable restraint to prevent movement in transit.


    Once delivered to Osaka, the components were reassembled within the KSA Pavilion. The geometric design made accuracy immediately visible. Angled panels and stepped sections needed to meet cleanly so that the finished object appeared continuous rather than reconstructed from transported parts. The central emblem then required connection and testing as part of the final installation. Any adjustment to the lighting or alignment needed to be completed before the scenic surfaces were fully closed and handed over. Evolution Scenic’s responsibility continued through installation and later dismantling. Maintaining that involvement beyond workshop fabrication meant the same understanding of the structure could be carried into its reassembly and removal.

    A SMALL STRUCTURE WITH A BROAD TECHNICAL SCOPE


    The finished feature brought together several distinct workshop disciplines within one compact installation. Metal fabrication created the structural foundation. Birch plywood and MDF formed the scenic body. Detailed carpentry produced the facets and stepped profiles. Poured resin created the dimensional centrepiece, while integrated lighting gave it a luminous appearance.


    Specialist spray finishing established the bronze and gold contrast, and sectional construction allowed the completed work to travel internationally and be reassembled within the pavilion. Its success depended less on the complexity of any single material than on the accuracy of the relationships between them. The metal frame had to support the timber construction. The MDF layers had to follow the design geometry. The resin emblem had to fit the prepared recess, and the lighting needed to remain concealed while illuminating it evenly. The finishes then had to unite the separate components into one resolved scenic object.


    Evolution Scenic carried the project from creative design and technical development through fabrication, shipping, installation and dismantling. That continuity allowed the visual concept, construction method and logistical strategy to be considered as one connected process. The completed feature demonstrates how pavilion identity can be given real architectural presence without becoming a conventional building element. It remained a temporary scenic structure, but one developed with the same attention to geometry, material, light and assembly that would be expected from a much larger environment.


    The most useful lesson is that scale does not determine complexity. A relatively compact scenic installation can still require several disciplines to work with considerable precision. When those disciplines are coordinated properly, the engineering and construction disappear into the finished form, leaving a clear and apparently effortless object at the centre of the space.

    Translating the Concept into a Complete Symposium Environment


    Evolution Scenic developed the client-supplied concept into a complete temporary environment extending across the ballroom, foyer and workshop areas. The project needed to support several different functions: a principal presentation stage, panel discussions, collaborative workshops, registration, information points and participant circulation. Although each area performed a different role, they needed to feel like parts of the same event rather than separate scenic installations.


    The concept was therefore developed as a connected spatial system. Geometry, proportions, graphic treatments, finishes and architectural details were coordinated across the different environments to establish a consistent visual language.


    At the same time, the scenic design had to be translated into practical workshop-built components. Framing, panel sizes, freestanding bases, junctions, technical openings and modular connection points were resolved so that the environment could be fabricated off-site, transported efficiently and assembled within the hotel. This approach allowed the project to operate as one complete symposium environment while still responding to the individual requirements of each venue zone.

    Building the Main Presentation Architecture


    The main ballroom environment was centred around a raised stage deck with integrated access steps and a large-format scenic presentation backdrop.


    Evolution Scenic fabricated the scenic architecture surrounding the central LED display, allowing the screen to become part of the overall stage composition rather than appearing as an independent technical element. Angular scenic forms, branded surfaces and large-format graphic treatments extended across the presentation elevation, creating a clear visual focus for keynote presentations and panel sessions.


    Custom lecterns and panel-session units were fabricated to follow the same architectural language. Their proportions, frontal branding and surface finishes were coordinated with the stage backdrop so that the presentation furniture appeared as an intentional part of the scenic environment. The finished stage brought together decking, scenic elevations, branded graphics, presentation joinery and screen integration within one coordinated architectural composition.

    Creating Workshop and Discussion Spaces


    Away from the main ballroom, the symposium required smaller environments for workshops, discussions and collaborative sessions. Evolution Scenic fabricated modular partitions and freestanding scenic structures to establish these spaces without making permanent alterations to the hotel interior. The partitions provided visual separation while also carrying event graphics, typography and informational content, allowing the architecture itself to contribute to the identity of each workshop area.


    Monitor stations and information counters were developed as purpose-built scenic assemblies. Counter surfaces, technical displays, graphic headers and vertical information panels were combined into individual structures rather than treated as separate furniture and equipment.

    This helped the workshop environments maintain the same level of visual control as the principal stage while adapting the scenic language to a smaller and more functional scale.

    Shaping Arrival, Branding and Wayfinding


    The scenic package extended beyond the principal presentation and workshop environments to address how participants arrived, identified destinations and moved through the venue. Evolution Scenic fabricated a coordinated range of registration and reception counters, freestanding directional signs, branded towers, graphic walls, sponsor panels, photo backdrops and entrance structures. These elements were positioned to support both functional circulation and visual continuity across the ballroom, foyer and workshop areas.


    “The Loft” entrance feature formed one of the principal destination markers within the symposium. Its freestanding construction, angular profile and bilingual graphic treatment created a recognisable architectural threshold into the workshop environment while reinforcing the event identity at a key transition point. Branded towers and directional elements provided additional vertical landmarks throughout the venue, helping participants identify routes and destinations without relying on conventional standalone signage alone. Their repeated proportions, finishes and graphic treatments also helped connect the different functional zones visually.


    Graphics were integrated directly into scenic walls, counters, towers and freestanding structures so that branding and wayfinding became part of the architectural composition rather than being applied as a secondary layer after fabrication. This approach allowed the arrival experience, orientation system and environmental branding to work together as one coordinated scenic language, strengthening both the operational clarity and the visual consistency of the symposium environment.

    Fabricating the Scenic Architecture and Custom Joinery


    The project was manufactured as a modular workshop-built scenic package using MDF, plywood, timber framing, metal framing, acrylic, fabric, laminate, printed panels, vinyl graphics and PU paint. MDF and plywood were used across scenic wall surfaces, shaped panels, stage fascias, counters, lecterns and presentation furniture. Timber framing provided the internal structure for many of the modular walls and joinery assemblies, while metal framing was incorporated where additional rigidity, slimmer structural sections or improved freestanding stability were required.


    Laminate provided durable finishes to selected working surfaces and counters, while PU paint created a controlled architectural finish across fabricated scenic elements. Acrylic, fabric, printed graphics and vinyl treatments introduced additional surface character and allowed branding to be incorporated at different scales throughout the environment. By manufacturing the project as modular components, Evolution Scenic could produce both large architectural scenery and detailed custom joinery within one coordinated fabrication programme.

    Integrating Screens, Lighting and Scenic Systems


    Evolution Technical supplied the LED screens, monitors, lighting and associated technical equipment, allowing the scenic and technical packages to be developed as a coordinated system rather than as separate disciplines.


    The main LED display was integrated directly within the fabricated stage backdrop and scenic surround. Its position influenced the dimensions of the surrounding scenic panels, visible edge conditions, structural allowances and the overall composition of the presentation elevation.

    Workshop monitors were similarly incorporated into purpose-built information stations, scenic counters and discussion-area structures. This ensured that the digital displays appeared as part of the designed environment rather than as independent technical equipment introduced after fabrication.


    These integrations required close coordination between the visible scenic finishes and the technical requirements concealed behind them, including equipment positioning, support framing, cable access, connection points and operational clearances. Lighting was also coordinated with the scenic architecture so that key surfaces, branded features and presentation zones could be visually defined without disrupting the overall design language of the environment.


    The collaboration between Evolution Scenic and Evolution Technical allowed screens, monitors and lighting systems to function as intentional architectural components within the symposium setting. This level of integration helped maintain clean sightlines, controlled scenic detailing and a consistent relationship between physical scenery, environmental graphics and digital content across the main stage and supporting workshop spaces.

    Delivery, Installation, Handover and De-Rig


    Evolution Scenic delivered the complete scenic package through a phased two-day installation programme across the ballroom, foyer and workshop areas. Because the principal structures had already been fabricated as modular workshop sections, site activity could focus on controlled unloading, positioning, assembly, alignment and final integration rather than extensive fabrication inside the hotel.


    The larger scenic components—including the stage deck, backdrop, LED surround and principal partitions—were assembled before the smaller joinery, counters, entrance features, branded towers and directional structures were positioned. Evolution Technical coordinated the installation of screens, monitors and lighting with the scenic structures before graphics, floor finishes and final presentation details were completed. Protection was maintained to the hotel’s existing floors and walls throughout delivery and installation.


    Once scenic construction, technical integration and final finishing were complete, the environment was prepared for operational handover. Following the symposium, Evolution Scenic carried out the complete de-rig. Stage components, scenic walls, partitions, counters, entrance structures, graphics, signage and supporting scenic elements were dismantled and removed from the venue. The modular construction method allowed larger structures to be separated into manageable transportable sections during removal, after which the ballroom, foyer and workshop spaces were returned to their original condition.

    Creating a Culturally Detailed Scenic Environment for the Al Wathba Union Parade


    The 2024 Union Parade at Al Wathba required a broad collection of temporary scenic environments and functional structures to be developed around the visual character of Emirati culture. Evolution Scenic was appointed by the event producer to provide design development, fabrication, installation, technical production and maintenance. The confirmed public-facing scope included tribal benches, custom lamp décor bases, branding walls and family tents. Evolution Scenic also completed the tent interiors, carrying the scenic language from the external environment into the internal hospitality spaces.


    The original project record additionally identifies a wooden roundabout with a CNC log wall, entrance steps and ramps, technical speaker hiders, camera platforms, cable-trunk cladding, signage walls and fire-extinguisher stands. These elements performed different functions, but they needed to read as one coordinated scenic environment.

    Developing the Cultural Scenic Language


    The central design-development requirement was to translate the project’s cultural direction into buildable scenic elements. Tribal benches established a furniture-scale layer within the environment. Their construction needed to balance decorative form with repeated public use, movement and maintenance. Custom lamp décor bases created consistent scenic housings around practical lighting equipment. Rather than leaving the technical bass exposed, the decorative construction allowed them to form part of the wider cultural treatment.


    Branding walls introduced larger vertical scenic surfaces. These walls supported visual identity, graphics and information while also defining spaces within the temporary environment. The family tents required a more complete architectural response. Evolution Scenic delivered both the tent environments and their interiors, ensuring that external presentation and internal finishes formed a connected visual experience. 

    Extending Scenic Fabrication into Temporary Interiors


    The family-tent interiors expanded the project beyond standalone external scenery. Interior scenic work requires closer attention to sightlines, junctions, repeated surfaces and the relationship between decorative elements and practical use. Walls, graphic panels, scenic details and technical interfaces are viewed at close range and therefore require controlled fabrication and finishing.


    Evolution Scenic’s role covered the interior scenic treatment, but the available records do not identify individual furniture items, textiles, floor finishes or lighting fixtures supplied by the company. The confirmed construction materials were timber, plywood and MDF.     Integrating Ceremonial Steps and Ramps


    Custom entrance steps and ramps were produced for His Highness’s access route. These structures required a different design approach from purely decorative scenery. Their geometry needed to support safe movement while the visible construction remained consistent with the wider environment. Ramp gradients, anti-slip finishes and edge protection formed part of the confirmed HSSE controls. Structural review was also required to verify the access elements before use.


    Transitions between the installed ramps, steps and surrounding levels needed to remain controlled. Scenic surfaces, trims or decorative details could not create projections, uneven edges or obstructions. This is an important aspect of scenic fabrication for formal environments: the finished structure must appear visually resolved while continuing to perform as safe temporary access infrastructure.

    Incorporating Safety Features into the Scenic Scope


    Fire-extinguisher stands and signage walls were developed as visible, purpose-made parts of the wider scenic environment rather than added as unrelated site equipment. Emergency equipment needed to remain clearly identifiable, immediately accessible and unobstructed throughout the installation. The fabricated extinguisher stands therefore provided organised mounting locations while keeping the equipment visible and easy to reach. This allowed essential safety provisions to sit within the finished environment without compromising their operational function.


    Fire-rated materials were applied where required, while electrical inspection formed part of the technical compliance process. These measures ensured that the scenic scope considered both the visible finish and the practical requirements associated with temporary installation safety. Signage walls were also incorporated to support safety information, wayfinding and wider operational communication. Their fabrication provided stable, clearly positioned surfaces for graphics while maintaining consistency with the surrounding scenic treatment.


    By integrating these requirements during design development, the project avoided treating safety equipment and compliance provisions as additions introduced after the main scenery had been completed. The stands, signage walls and related technical measures were coordinated alongside the wider scenic construction so they could be accommodated within the overall layout. This approach helped maintain both visual consistency and clear operational access across the environment. The result was a more considered installation in which safety, communication and scenic fabrication were developed as part of the same overall scope.

    Delivering the Project through Restricted Access


    Restricted access was the principal confirmed installation challenge. The two-month programme required design development, fabrication and site activity to remain closely coordinated. Information needed to move quickly from technical development into workshop production, while finished assets had to be delivered in sequences compatible with the available access.


    The different scenic systems could not all be installed at the same stage. Larger walls, platforms, ramps, tents and the wooden roundabout needed to establish the principal physical layout. Decorative assets, graphics, equipment hiders and technical cladding could then be aligned around those larger structures. Restricted access also increased the importance of protecting completed work. Once installed, scenic surfaces needed to remain clear of subsequent technical activity and material movement.

    Delivering Cultural Scenery as Functional Infrastructure


    The Al Wathba Union Parade project demonstrates the breadth of modern scenic fabrication. The completed scope included culturally detailed furniture, decorative technical housings, temporary tent interiors, branding walls, CNC-produced scenic construction, ceremonial access structures, camera platforms, speaker hiders, cable cladding, signage and fire-safety provisions.


    Each element needed to fulfil its own practical purpose while remaining visually connected to the wider environment. Evolution Scenic coordinated the design development, fabrication, installation, technical production and maintenance within a two-month delivery programme and under restricted-access conditions. The result was not simply a collection of themed decorative assets. It was an integrated scenic environment in which cultural character, technical infrastructure, safe access and operational support were developed as one physical system.

    Building Four Glazed Meeting Rooms


    Four 4m × 4m meeting rooms were incorporated into the stand to provide enclosed spaces for meetings and presentations within the wider exhibition environment. Each room featured glass walls and double glass doors, maintaining a strong visual connection with the surrounding stand while still creating a clearly defined internal zone. The photographs show the glazed rooms framed by substantial white scenic structures, with coloured interiors introducing contrast within the overall architectural treatment. Integrated presentation screens were also incorporated into the rooms as part of the functional setup.

    A Suspended Architectural Feature


    One of the strongest visual elements within the completed stand was the large rectangular overhead feature finished in HPE green. Positioned above the main counter, the structure created a strong horizontal architectural line and gave the stand a more defined spatial identity. Its colour reinforced the HPE brand language without relying solely on applied graphics or signage. Integrated lighting added further definition to the feature and helped strengthen its presence within the wider exhibition environment.

Carpet was installed throughout the exhibition footprint, providing a consistent foundation across the visitor, display and meeting areas, while precisely applied vinyl graphics completed the branded wall surfaces. These finishing elements were carefully coordinated with the scenic construction, lighting and architectural details to maintain a clean and refined appearance throughout the installation. The result was a visually unified stand in which the structural, decorative and branded components worked seamlessly together.


    The completed environment presents a considered combination of crisp white painted scenic architecture, contrasting coloured meeting-room interiors, transparent glazing, integrated lighting and carefully positioned branded surfaces. Each material and finish contributes to the overall visual language of the stand while supporting the functional requirements of a busy technology exhibition.
